Akwa Ibom State FA condemns attack on Ibom Angels FC camp

The Akwa Ibom State Football Association has strongly condemned the shocking attack on the camp of Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) side, Ibom Angels FC, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, November 30, 2024.

The armed men reportedly invaded the camp, stole valuables belonging to the female footballers, and left one player hospitalised after sustaining a gunshot wound.

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Mr Samuel Umoh, expressed deep concern and sympathy for the players.

“This attack on Ibom Angels FC is not just an attack on a football team; it is an attack on the spirit of sportsmanship and unity that the team represents. We condemn this heinous act in the strongest terms and call on the relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.”

Mr Umoh also expressed his heartfelt sympathies to the players, especially the injured footballer.

“To the players of Ibom Angels FC, we stand with you during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with the injured player, and we pray for her quick and full recovery as she receives medical care. No one should ever have to endure such a traumatic experience.”
