15 Minors, 27 Others Arrested for Begging on Lagos Streets [VIDEO]

A total of 15 minors and 27 other people have been arrested by the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce for begging on the streets of Lagos State.

The Lagos State commissioner for environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab said the individuals were picked up on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 during a raid operation against persons constituting public nuisance across the state.

According to Wahab, the raid operations by the state task force were carried out around Awolowo Way up to Falomo round about, Ikoyi and Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, along Lekki road.

He said the individuals were arrested for unlawful act of street begging in traffics on the listed roads in Lagos State.

His words on X,”Major routes raided includes; Awolowo Way up to Falomo round about, Ikoyi and Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, along Lekki road. This is in a bid to arrest and get rid of destitutes and miscreants causing public nuisance in the areas.

“27 persons including 15 minors involved in the unlawful act of street begging in the middle of vehicular traffic/hold-ups were apprehended during the operation,” Wahab stated.

Also sharing a video from the scene, Wahab further stated that all the suspects arrested so far would be transferred to the relevant authorities for prosecution in line with the provisions of the law.
