Duplantis and Mahuchikh Named World Athletics Field Athletes of the Year

Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis and Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh have been honoured as the 2024 World Athletics Field Athletes of the Year after an incredible season.

Duplantis, an Olympic champion, defended his title in Paris by clearing 6.00m and setting new records. He broke the Olympic record with a 6.10m jump and later achieved a new world record of 6.25m. Over the season, he improved his own world record three times, finishing with a 6.26m jump at the Diamond League in Brussels.

Mahuchikh also shined in Paris, winning Olympic gold with a 2.00m jump, becoming Ukraine’s first individual gold medalist of the Games. In July, she set a new high jump world record of 2.10m at the Paris Diamond League, breaking a 37-year-old record held by Stefka Kostadinova.

Their remarkable achievements have made them stand out in the world of athletics, earning them well-deserved recognition
