Fire guts section of popular plank market in Lagos

A fire outbreak on Thursday at a plank market on Pipeline Street in the Ikotun area of Lagos State destroyed four shops before being swiftly contained by emergency responders.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident in a statement.

He praised the prompt response of the Agency’s Dolphin Response Team from Igando, along with coordinated efforts from other responders, for preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures.

Preliminary investigations have yet to determine the cause of the fire. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported.

Earlier on the same day, another fire incident was reported at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) office in Oshodi, Lagos.

LASEMA disclosed that the blaze resulted from an overheated generator.
Emergency teams successfully curtailed the fire, ensuring no loss of life or injuries in the incident.
