“It’s About Friendship, Not Winning” – ID Cabasa Reflects on SFCOBA 94Set Novelty Match

The St. Finbarr’s College Old Boys Association (SFCOBA) 94Set novelty football match was a thrilling highlight of the group’s 30th Anniversary Celebration, and Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, played a key role in the Science Class’s commanding 2-0 victory over the Commercial and Art Class team.

Held at the iconic St. Finbarr’s College field on December 6th, 2024, the match saw the Science Class dominate from start to finish, with ID Cabasa emerging as Man of the Match for his impressive performance.

A proud Science Class alumnus and legendary Nigerian music producer, ID Cabasa led his team with both skill and spirit, embodying the theme of camaraderie that defined the event.

In the first half, ID Cabasa’s relentless drive earned the Science Class a penalty after he was brought down in the box.

Although the penalty was missed, the Science Class didn’t lose momentum. Minutes later, Chris scored the first goal, thanks to a perfect assist from Dr. Thaddeus Ugwueke, Chairman of the Anniversary Committee.

The second half was just as intense. Uti sealed the victory with a stunning volley that beat Robo, the Commercial and Art goalkeeper, to secure the 2-0 win. Throughout the match, ID Cabasa’s midfield control and leadership stood out, inspiring his team to deliver a dominant performance.

Reflecting on the game, ID Cabasa said, “It is not about the winning; it is about friendship. Seeing ourselves coming together after leaving school 30 years ago is a thing of joy. This match is a celebration of brotherhood, not just football.”

A Science Class star during his school days, ID Cabasa is also a celebrated figure in the Nigerian music industry, known for mentoring artists like Olamide and 9ice.

His role in the match underscored the enduring bond shared by the SFCOBA 94Set alumni.

The novelty match was more than a game; it was a testament to the lasting friendships and memories forged at St. Finbarr’s College, brought to life once again in a spirit of unity and joy.
