The Nigerian government on Monday, December 16, 2024, renamed the University Of Abuja, Gwagwalada to Yakubu Gowon University.
This was disclosed by Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information, culture and tourism after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa.
The meeting was presided over by President Bola Tinubu.
According to the minister, the renaming was in honour of Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), who recently celebrated his 90th birthday.
The proposal, the minister said would be forwarded to the National Assembly for formal approval.
