The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced the refund of N4.48 billion to State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the armed forces due to subpar electricity services provided during the 2023 Hajj.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Muhammad Musa, NAHCON’s head of public affairs, revealed that an additional N917.15 million was refunded to 192 accredited tour companies.
“Each pilgrim is entitled to a refund of N61,080. We urge them to contact their state welfare boards, commissions, or tour operators to claim it,” Musa stated.
Musa highlighted that refunds to some tour companies are pending reconciliation. He also called on intending 2025 pilgrims to deposit their fares early to enable timely arrangements in line with Saudi Arabian guidelines.
To ensure transparency, NAHCON, under the leadership of its chairman, Abdullahi Saleh, has enlisted anti-corruption agencies to oversee the process.
“In the interest of due process, NAHCON calls upon the EFCC, ICPC, and other security agencies to monitor the refund process. This collaboration aims to ensure all refunds reach the intended beneficiaries without discrepancy,” Musa added.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, urging pilgrims to take advantage of the refunds promptly.
