PDP Confirms Removal of Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, Paving Way for Ude-Okoye
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially confirmed the removal of Senator Samuel Anyanwu from his position as National Secretary, following the receipt of a Certified True Copy (CTC) of a judgment from the Court of Appeal in Enugu. The ruling, dated December 20, upheld a prior High Court decision that validated the nomination of Sunday Ude-Okoye, a former National Youth Leader of the party, as Anyanwu’s successor.
The CTC was received by the PDP’s legal officer on December 24, marking a significant step in the party’s adherence to the court’s directive. This decision effectively resolves a protracted legal dispute regarding the National Secretary position.
Ude-Okoye was initially nominated by the South East PDP to take over from Anyanwu in 2023, following Anyanwu’s selection as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the Imo State governorship election. Party officials contended that Anyanwu vacated his role as National Secretary upon his candidacy, in accordance with the party’s guidelines. However, the transition was met with legal challenges stemming from conflicting lower court rulings.
The recent ruling by the Court of Appeal has clarified the situation, affirming Ude-Okoye’s nomination as legitimate.
