The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has announced that the Nigeria Police Force will commence the enforcement of third-party insurance compliance for vehicle owners across the country.
In a statement released on Friday, January 10, in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Egbetokun made the declaration while receiving the Commissioner for Insurance, National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olusegun Omosehin.
Egbetokun emphasized that third-party insurance is a legal requirement, citing Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Section 312 of the 1945 Motor Vehicle (Third Party Insurance) Act, which mandate all vehicle owners to obtain third-party insurance before operating vehicles on public roads. He urged Nigerians to comply with the law, warning that violations could result in imprisonment, fines, or both.
The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the protection of lives and property nationwide, stressing that adherence to third-party insurance regulations would promote public safety and accountability on the roads.
