Xabi Alonso hails Victor Boniface after his goal ends ‘a bit unusual situation’

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has stressed how important Nigerian forward Victor Boniface is to the team after his strong performance in a 3-1 win over Hoffenheim, where he scored.

Boniface was close to joining Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr last weekend, but the move did not go through.

“I have always trusted him; this was an important moment for him, especially after his injury,” Alonso said.

He added, “Last week’s situation was a bit unusual and difficult, but it was important for him to feel valued and receive support from the fans. That means a lot for his confidence.
