‘I don’t regret supporting Tinubu’, El-Rufai opens up about 2023 election

Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna State has disclosed that he does not regret the support he rendered to Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.

The former governor said, despite the events that have taken place after Tinubu’s victory and declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), he still does not regret his stance during the last election.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday, March 12, the former governor said he is only surprised with the way things turned out.

He also said that he threw his weight behind Tinubu during the 2023 campaign and election proper after he received reports of marginalisation of Muslims from the South West region of the country.

El-Rufai noted, “I haven’t regretted it, but I have been taken by surprise. But why I don’t regret supporting him is, some Yoruba leaders from the South West had visited Kaduna and informed me that the Muslims of their region were being politically marginalised. That was the first reason I supported Tinubu.

“The second reason is this: We agreed that the 2023 presidential seat would be zoned to the Southern part of the Nigeria for fairness, balance and justice in the country,” he stated.
