The Rivers State Government has broken its silence following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency and suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly.
Speaking shortly after the announcement, Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, said the government would not make any immediate comments on the president’s decision.
“The president has made a declaration, and what do you think we can say? I think it is too hasty to make any comment about it,” Johnson stated.
President Tinubu, in a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, announced the suspension of key government officials in Rivers and appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the new Administrator to take charge of the state’s affairs.
The political crisis in Rivers has been growing due to a power struggle between Governor Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over control of the state’s political structure.
