JUST IN: Tinubu gets invitation to visit South American nation

Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu has received an invitation to visit the South American nation, Brazil.

An invitation to visit Brazil was extended to Tinubu by his counterpart, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Wednesday, March 12.

Delivering the invite to Tinubu, Brazilian Foreign Affairs Minister Mauro Viera told the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar that the invitation is part of efforts to deepen diplomatic relations between Brazil and Nigeria.

Speaking at a meeting in Abuja, Viera, who led the Brazilian team to Nigeria said they hope to engage in high-level talks with officials in the country.

With both nations expected to sign some agreements that could strengthen their bilateral relationship, Viera commended President Tinubu for his participation and contributions at the G-20 summit in Brazil last November.

He also said that the dialogue had opened platforms for deeper relationships in the areas of culture, economics, cooperation and education.

“We value a lot the contributions of Nigeria to the G-20 and we hope that President Tinubu will be able to come back to Brazil in the near future.

‘’I take also this opportunity to express the desire of President Lula to receive President Tinubu in Brazil shortly.

“We consider this instance, this moment of consultations between our two ministries, very important. It’s a follow-up to the previous engagements we had,” Viera said.

In his response, Tuggar said both countries already share a lot in common and more efforts in strengthening the already existing relationship is a welcome development.

The minister said: “We share a lot in common, from our size and economies to our population and culture. This visit is a natural progression of our partnership.’’
