Nigerian sprinter Shedrack Akpeki continues to show promising form this season, clocking a new personal best of 10.37s (2.8 m/s wind) to finish third in Heat 4 of the men’s 100m.
The race was won by Kimarlie Stewart, who crossed the line in an impressive 10.15s.

Akpeki’s latest performance marks a significant improvement on his previous college best, underscoring the 21-year-old’s steady progression in the sprints. Known primarily for his strength in the 400m, Akpeki has been steadily sharpening his speed, and this latest result suggests he’s on track for a strong outdoor season.
Earlier this year, he helped his team to a silver medal in the 4×400m relay at the Sunbelt Indoor Championships, showcasing his versatility and ability to deliver in high-stakes relay events. He followed up his indoor campaign with a strong start to the outdoor season, notching a personal record of 21.16s in the 200m.
With improved times in both the 100m and 200m under his belt, Akpeki is shaping up to be one of Nigeria’s bright young sprinting prospects. As the season progresses, he will be one to watch closely, especially as he gains more experience on the collegiate circuit and beyond.
“I’m just taking it one race at a time, trusting the process and working hard,” Akpeki said after the race. “I’m happy with the PB, but I know there’s more to come.”
