Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has advised Wayne Rooney to stop trying to be a football manager, saying the job is not for him.
Speaking on ShootforLoveYT during a chat with fellow ex-United star Park Ji-sung, Evra said Rooney’s coaching career has been filled with struggles and poor results.
Rooney has had a tough time as a manager, with disappointing spells at Derby County, D.C. United, Birmingham City, and most recently Plymouth Argyle. Each time, his teams either got worse or improved only after he left.
Evra said, “That’s why they [Birmingham] got relegated. I said, ‘No, please stop being a manager, it’s not for you.’ He keeps going somewhere, gets sacked, and when he leaves, they start winning.”
Evra’s comments reflect the view that Rooney’s strength may not lie in management. Instead, the former England striker is now enjoying life as a football pundit.
While Rooney has not ruled out taking another coaching job, for now, he seems focused on his media work, where he has received more praise.
