NPFL Sets Uniform Kickoff Time for Matchday 37 to Ensure Fairness

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has confirmed that all Matchday 37 games will kick off at the same time—3pm on Sunday, May 11.

According to NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, the decision was made to promote fairness across the league as clubs battle for continental spots and fight to avoid relegation.

“We had earlier fixed the trophy presentation in Ikenne for 3pm due to safety concerns,” Owumi said. “After reviewing all the fixtures, we saw that many of them could influence the final league standings. A uniform kickoff time removes any advantage teams might get from knowing other results beforehand.”

The simultaneous start means teams will play under the same conditions, with no side having prior knowledge of outcomes elsewhere that could affect their approach.

Among the key fixtures, defending champions Remo Stars will face Ikorodu City in Ikenne, while Abia Warriors host El-Kanemi Warriors in Umuahia, both matches carrying major implications for top-three qualification.
