Bayelsa Queens have strengthened their squad with the signing of five new players — three attackers, one midfielder, and one defender — ahead of the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU Zone B qualifiers.
The new additions include striker Janet Akekoromowei from Nasarawa Amazons, forward Mary Lucky from Abia Angels, and two players from Naija Ratels: striker Bankole Sofiat and defender Oladeji Oluwabunmi. Also joining the team is midfielder Kafiat Mafisere from Edo Queens.

Technical Adviser Whyte Ogbonda expressed optimism about the new arrivals, stating that they bring both quality and hunger to the team.
“We are really happy to have these players joining us,” Ogbonda said. “They will bring their wealth of experience, which their teammates will benefit from, and they have real hunger to win.
“Since their arrival, they have been working hard, and this will definitely elevate our levels. I know they will fit in perfectly. One area we’re really pleased about is the attacking line — we now have depth.”
Ogbonda also confirmed that the club is close to finalising the arrival of three more players, with negotiations already at an advanced stage.
“These players have terrific technical ability, which I am sure Bayelsa Queens fans will appreciate and enjoy when they get to see them in action,” he added.
“These signings reflect our commitment to strengthening the squad with the best talent as we continue to raise the standard of women’s football in Nigeria and across Africa.”
The new signings have already settled into the team and expressed their eagerness to contribute to Bayelsa Queens’ ambitions.
They also acknowledged the club’s reputation for producing intelligent and technically sound players who make a strong impact both domestically and on the continental stage.
