Bayelsa Police Decorate 48 Newly Promoted Assistant Superintendents

The Bayelsa State Police Command has decorated 48 officers elevated from the rank of Inspector to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), in a ceremony held on Wednesday at the Police Officers Mess, Yenagoa.

The event was presided over by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Francis Idu, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Sanusi Mohammed.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, DCP Mohammed reminded them that higher rank comes with greater responsibility and accountability.

“Today, by His grace, you are moving from the inspectorate cadre to the prestigious cadre of the Superintendent of Police, which means more work and more responsibility,” he said. “Whatever decision you take will now be viewed more seriously by the Force and by the government. You must ensure you act professionally and morally at all times.”

Mohammed also encouraged the officers to invest in personal growth and stay up-to-date with policing knowledge. “Refresh your memory, learn more about police duties, police acts and regulations. Have interest in furthering your education and always appear immaculately neat, because others are watching you,” he advised.

According to him, the promotion was part of the Inspector-General of Police’s welfare initiative to motivate personnel and improve service delivery. He stressed that the new rank placed the officers in positions to lead and mentor junior colleagues.

“They are now in one of the prestigious cadres of the Force and are expected to give guidance to the rank and file, to lead them, and to make themselves role models,” he stated.

The DCP conveyed the goodwill of IGP Kayode Egbetokun, CP Francis Idu, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 16, wishing the officers divine guidance and protection as they assume their new responsibilities.
