His detention follows his arrest at the airport last week while he was preparing to travel to Qatar.
Reports indicate that the arrest is connected to an ongoing Domestic Violence case involving his late wife, Bimbo, which is still before the courts.
Authorities had reportedly barred him from leaving Nigeria until the case is resolved.
An update on Friday revealed that Ogbonna will remain in Kirikiri Prison until September 28.
