The Enugu State Police Command has detained six male suspects linked to robbery, motorcycle snatching, and cult-related activities in separate operations across the state.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the arrests led to the recovery of two firearms, seven live rounds of ammunition, a stolen motorcycle, and other incriminating items.
Ndukwe disclosed that on August 13 at about 10:30 p.m., operatives attached to the Crack Tactical Squad, while on patrol in the Abakpa area of Enugu, intercepted a suspect riding a motorcycle in a suspicious manner. A search led to the discovery of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, concealed in a black bag.
In another operation on August 10 at around 5:00 a.m., operatives of the Anti-Cultism Squad, acting on confessions from two notorious robbery suspects, apprehended three additional male suspects aged between 22 and 24 years. They reportedly confessed to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity. Recovered exhibits included a locally made single-barrel pistol, one expended cartridge, three blue candle sticks, and substances suspected to be cannabis.
Similarly, on August 9 at about 12:45 p.m., operatives from the Oji-River Police Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), arrested two men while they attempted to sell a snatched Topway motorcycle. Police said the suspects had robbed a commercial motorcyclist of the bike around 9 p.m. the previous day.
SP Ndukwe confirmed that discreet investigations into the cases are ongoing, and the suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.
