President Tinubu Receives Accolades From Tobi Amusan For Rewarding Nigeria’s Sports Achievers

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received a huge splash of accolades from women’s world 100m hurdles record holder, Tobi Amusan for recent rewards the federal government handed out to Nigeria’s achievers in various international sports competitions.

Sports247 reports that, although nothing has been said about a presidential reward in recognition of her recent silver medal-winning feat at the 2025 World Athletics Championship in Tokyo, Japan, Amusan disclosed that she was happy seeing what President Tinubu rolled out for the women’s football and basketball teams.

Amusan retorted, “All thanks to him that he’s recognising we the athletes, because there is so much that we put in behind the scene.”

The worldwide hurdles queen, who grew up in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State and shot to prominence as an undergraduate at University of Texas, El Pas (UTEP) in the United States of America, also admitted that she would love to be rewarded for her efforts, considering the huge amount of money she spends in getting herself and back-up team to venues of major athletics competitions.

Furthermore, the vibrant athlete, who set a world record of 12.12sec while winning gold at the 2022 World Championship in Oregon, USA, added: “I have a whole lot of teams, and you really don’t know how much I pay to bring them out here.”

Amusan concluded with a verdict that applause has to be given to anyone who has encouraged Nigeria’s athletes with various forms of rewards, which she believes would inspire them to put in extra effort in order to bring more glory home to the country in future meets.

“With all that’s been said, we give thanks to the ones who really acknowledge the fact that we athletes put in a lot of work before we get to events. It’s not just a month.

“So, the fact that you recognise our hard work and compensate us for all the things we do, we are thankful for that,” Amusan submitted
