REPORT: Oyo beats Akwa Ibom, FCT, others as best state to live in Nigeria

Oyo has been rated the most livable state in Nigeria, according to the 2025 State Performance Index (SPI) released.

The report, which measures relocation preferences and quality-of-life perceptions across the country, placed Oyo ahead of Akwa Ibom and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the most desirable places to live.

Zamfara, Anambra and Bayelsa were listed among the least preferred states, largely due to insecurity and developmental challenges.

The findings highlighted the importance of infrastructure, safety and urban amenities in shaping public perception of quality of life across Nigerian states.

The report noted that states with strong governance and improved amenities continue to attract more relocation interest, while those associated with instability face higher rejection rates.
