Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen will be aiming to break a major club record when the Turkish champions host Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League.
The 26-year-old forward scored an impressive 37 goals and registered seven assists in 41 games last season before signing a four-year permanent deal with Galatasaray in August.
So far this season, Osimhen has scored three goals in seven appearances for Okan Buruk’s side and will be hoping to add to his tally at RAMS Park.
Galatasaray, nicknamed the CimBom Aslan, will host Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in their third Group Stage match of the Champions League.
Osimhen featured for only 12 minutes in last weekend’s Turkish Super Lig match against Basaksehir, following his hat-trick for Nigeria in their World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic during the international break.
The former Napoli star already holds Galatasaray’s all-time single-season scoring record, becoming the first player to net 37 goals in one campaign.
He now has his sights set on breaking the club’s European scoring streak record. Osimhen currently shares the record with former striker Burak Yilmaz, who scored in six consecutive European matches in 2012.
If he scores against Bodo/Glimt tomorrow, Osimhen will become the sole record holder.
The Nigerian international’s recent goals in European competitions have come against clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, AZ Alkmaar, Dynamo Kyiv, and Ajax.
After missing Galatasaray’s opening Champions League game against Frankfurt due to an ankle injury, Osimhen returned to action and scored in their 1-0 win over Liverpool in Istanbul.
The clash presents another big chance for Osimhen to make history and continue his fine scoring form in Europe.
