Ugbade Hails Osimhen’s Heroics, Compares Striker to Football Legends After Benin Hat-Trick

Former Nigeria international and youth coach Nduka Ugbade has showered praise on Victor Osimhen following his stunning hat-trick in Nigeria’s 4–0 demolition of Benin Republic that sealed the Super Eagles’ spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.

Speaking after the match in Uyo, Ugbade described Osimhen’s performance as “world-class,” adding that the striker’s mentality, leadership, and relentless work rate elevate him among the greatest footballers Nigeria — and even the world — has produced.

“What Osimhen did against Benin is not just about goals; it’s about leadership, belief, and heart. He carries the team the same way Rashidi Yekini once did for Nigeria. That’s greatness,” Ugbade said.

He went on to compare the Galatasaray forward to legendary figures such as Pele, Diego Maradona, and Nigeria’s own Rashidi Yekini, stating that Osimhen’s hunger and consistency reflect the traits of players who change the course of games and inspire nations.

“Great players make the impossible look easy. Osimhen is in that bracket. Like Yekini, like Maradona — he has that burning desire to win for his country,” he added.

Ugbade, who captained Nigeria to victory at the 1985 U-16 World Cup, emphasized that Osimhen’s influence goes beyond the pitch, inspiring a new generation of Nigerian footballers to dream bigger.

“Every young player in Nigeria now wants to be like Osimhen — not just because of his goals, but because of his story and attitude. He represents resilience, hope, and passion,” he stated.

Ugbade concluded by calling for full national support for the Super Eagles ahead of the playoff stage, insisting that with Osimhen leading the line and the team playing with such unity, Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup is within reach.
