ADC BoT Faction Rejects David Mark Coalition, Warns Members Against Atiku, Peter Obi, Others

A faction of the Board of Trustees of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) loyal to factional National Chairman Nafiu Bala, has dismissed the David Mark-led coalition as an illegal structure backed by a rival leadership.

Naija News reports that the factional BoT Secretary, Rufus Ekenmi, stated this during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, accusing the coalition of “sneaking into the ADC” and attempting to destabilise the party.

Ekenmi condemned what he described as a deliberate plot by some high-profile political figures to hijack the party under the guise of forming a coalition.

“Some individuals illegally sneaked into the party in the name of a coalition, infesting the ADC with the political spirit of insubordination,” he declared.

The faction said it would not recognise or cooperate with the coalition group being championed by former Senate President David Mark.

The factional BoT further mandated Bala to activate the party’s disciplinary committee against any member found engaging with notable political leaders aligned with the coalition.

The list includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Senate President David Mark, ex-governors Nasir El-Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, Liyel Imoke, ex-ministers Abubakar Malami, Babachir Lawal, and former Imo governor Emeka Ihedioha.

Ekenmi said such interactions amount to aligning with a parallel leadership structure.

Reacting to his BoT endorsement, Bala vowed to uphold the ADC constitution and lead the party with fairness and objectivity.

He accused members of the coalition of violating the party’s constitution by operating from a parallel secretariat.

“Our party constitution unambiguously stipulates that only registered members in good standing are entitled to party privileges, including access to official premises,” he said.

He maintained that any attempt to create a secondary power centre within the party would be resisted.
