Afeez Aremu Set To Host Major Grassroots Football Tournament In Ibadan As He Gives Back To Nigerian Youths

Nigerian international Afeez Aremu, who stars for German Bundesliga 2 side 1. FC Kaiserslautern, has announced plans to host a major grassroots football tournament in Ibadan on 23rd November 2025, marking another impactful step in his commitment to developing young talent in Nigeria.

The tournament will take place at the IMG Football Pitch in Apata, Ibadan, and will feature eight invited grassroots teams, including:

Swallux FC

Action Stars FC

Young Stars FC

Wasiu Taiwo FC

VIA Academy

Anderlecht FC

Cardinals FC

Adewale Babes FC

As part of the initiative, Aremu will also donate official Kaiserslautern jerseys to selected grassroots players — a gesture he describes as a personal way of staying connected to his roots and inspiring the next generation.

Aremu, who rose from the streets of Ibadan before earning moves across Europe, said the tournament represents his desire to give young players the opportunities he never had.

“This is my own little way of giving back,” Aremu said. “I know what it feels like to chase a dream from the grassroots. If I can encourage even one player to keep going, then it is worth it.”

The midfielder emphasised that registration is completely free, stressing that his ultimate goal is to remove barriers for promising youngsters and give them a platform to showcase their ability.

The upcoming event has already generated excitement among aspiring players and football lovers in Oyo State, with many praising Aremu’s dedication to community upliftment.

Aremu’s initiative reflects a growing trend of Nigerian professionals reinvesting in grassroots football — a movement believed to be crucial for reviving youth development across the country.

Afeez Aremu: Building dreams. Supporting talent. Giving back.
