A bright ray of hope has appeared towards better welfare and adequate remuneration of Nigeria’s sports stars, sequel to the emergence of a new insurance policy that will cover athletes across all disciplines, Sports247 reports.

This follows an elaborate explanation by National Sports Commission (NSC) director-general, Bukola Olopade, who disclosed that the novel package will also cover likely injuries, loss of life and protection of all types of property that belong to athletes who represent the country.

Olopade revealed at length, “We have looked into how they must reshape and reframe insurance. This lays emphasis on athletes’ welfare, not just locally but also internationally.

“We all have agreed on a template that would make life easier for our athletes to go out with dignity and come back feeling safe.”

In what could infer better conditions for D’Tigers at the ongoing FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Tunisia and Super Eagles at the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Olopade assured that Nigeria’s representatives will begin to enjoy better attention from the NSC.

“They will feel assured that their health is secured, their lives are safe and the properties that they travel with are well protected as well,” Olopade affirmed.
