The 2025/26 Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership season began on a bright note as Matchday One produced exciting results, late winners, thrilling comebacks and a share of points across nine match venues on Wednesday.
In Lagos, Dannaz Ladies edged Osun Babes FC 3–2 in one of the most entertaining fixtures of the day. Sharon Shomuyiwa gave Osun Babes an early lead in the 15th minute, but Fatima Sholaty levelled for Dannaz Ladies three minutes later. Korie Ulumma made it 2–1 in the 79th minute, before Robiat Taofeeq equalised late for Osun Babes. Ajoke Akinbo, however, sealed victory for Dannaz Ladies in the 89th minute.
In Lafia, Nasarawa Amazons came from behind to beat Delta Queens 2–1. Nora Davies put Delta Queens ahead in the 4th minute, but goals from Imoh Jones and Hembafan Ayatsea in the 40th and 45th minute completed the comeback.
Adamawa Queens earned a comfortable 2–0 win over Pacesetter Queens in Makwada, thanks to goals from Ifeoma Damian and Mary Sunday.
There were goalless draws in Bwari and Umuahia as Naija Ratels held Ibom Angels, while Ahudiyannem Queens and Remo Stars Ladies shared the points.
In Akure, FC Robo Queens secured a narrow 1–0 win over Sunshine Queens with a decisive first-half goal from Marvellous Oladuni.
Bayelsa Queens claimed a 3–2 victory over Edo Queens in Yenagoa, in a game that swung back and forth. Kindness Ifeanyi cancelled out Rebecca Adegbemile’s opener before half-time, and Janet Akekoromowei put Bayelsa Queens ahead shortly after the restart. Edo Queens fought back through Adanna Nwachukwu, but a late strike from Blessing Ilvieda ensured all three points for the hosts.
In Iyamho, Confluence Queens and Abia Angels played out a 2–2 draw. Funmilayo Adefuye opened scoring for Abia Angels in the 19th minute, but Akosile Mary and Blessing Sunday turned the game around for Confluence Queens. Blessing Okon later scored to secure a point for the visitors.
Heartland Queens defeated Ekiti Queens 2–1 in Owerri after coming from behind. Amarachi Okoronkwo scored first for Ekiti Queens before Heartland Queens responded with goals from Chizoba Johnson and Emmanuella James.
Matchday One has set the tone for what promises to be an exciting NWFL Premiership season, with teams already showing intent, resilience and attacking flair.
