Officials have moved to clear the air over reports concerning the Super Eagles’ accommodation ahead of their 2025 CAF World Cup playoff semifinal against Gabon, following social media claims that the team was lodged in poor facilities.
On Monday morning, a short video shared online by midfielder Alex Iwobi appeared to show a rundown environment said to be part of the team’s hotel in Rabat, Morocco. The clip quickly went viral, attracting criticism from fans over the perceived condition of the team’s lodging.
Team officials have, however, dismissed the reports, saying the video was misleading.
According to an official, the Super Eagles are camped at the Rive Hotel, a four-star facility suitable for any top national team. The official explained that the video only showed the view of an old building visible from one of the hotel’s windows, not the hotel itself.
They further stated that the Rive Hotel was chosen by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for its convenience and close proximity to both the training ground and the match venue in Rabat.
Nigeria will face Gabon in the semifinal of the CAF World Cup playoff, with the winner to meet either Cameroon or DR Congo in the final. The eventual champion will represent Africa at the FIFA Intercontinental Playoff scheduled for March 2026 in Mexico.
