Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has shared how he helped Ademola Lookman reach his best form, leading to his CAF Player of the Year award. Peseiro congratulated Lookman for his achievement and explained how their work together helped Lookman succeed.
Lookman had a standout year, especially during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he scored all the goals for Nigeria in the Round of 16 and quarter-finals. Even though Nigeria finished second, Lookman’s strong performance continued at his club, Atalanta. He helped them win the Europa League, finish in the top four, and claim the Coppa Italia.
In an interview with Sports Italia, Peseiro praised Lookman’s performances for both his club, Atalanta, and the Super Eagles. He said, “Lookman’s victory is deserved because of his great performances for both Atalanta and Nigeria.”
Lookman had a tough time a few years ago while playing for Fulham, but now he is at the top. Peseiro shared that Lookman’s success was due to being given the freedom to play his way. “Giving Lookman the freedom to move around helped him show his quality in decision-making and execution,” said Peseiro. He also mentioned that Atalanta’s coach, Gasperini, and the club environment helped Lookman grow as a player.
