In line with its commitment to grassroots sports development, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has pledged full support to 15-year-old tennis sensation Khadijat Eleojo Mohammed, a rising star who has rewritten Nigerian tennis history.

Khadijat, who made history as the first West or Central African to win the ITF J30 World Tour at 14, is a two-time champion of the prestigious Dala Hard Court Tennis tournament.
Despite her immense talent and professional achievements, the financial demands of progressing in global tennis had become insurmountable for her family.
Her father and coach, Mohammed Ohinoyi, a certified ITF coach and former professional player, appealed to the NSC for assistance.

NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko has assured Khadijat of the Commission’s commitment to realizing her full potential. He praised her talent and hard work, describing her as a future global tennis star.
“I will make sure we support and help you to be the best you can be,” Dikko said. “This aligns with our grassroots program to discover young talents. Be rest assured we will carry you on our wings.”
To further boost Khadijat’s career, the NSC will include her in its adopt-an-athlete initiative, connecting her with corporate sponsors.
Dikko emphasized the importance of nurturing her talent for the Olympics and other global tournaments.
A Roadmap to Greatness
The NSC plans to integrate Khadijat into its development framework, ensuring alignment with the Nigeria Tennis Federation’s programs. Bar. Musa Amadu, an aide to the Chairman, was tasked with monitoring her progress.
Amadu highlighted the critical need for funding and international exposure, suggesting potential enrollment in European tennis academies.
“Without proper funding, players’ natural talent fizzles out. With the right support, Khadijat can aspire to break into Grand Slams,” he said.

Khadijat expressed her gratitude and ambition, saying, “If I am supported, I want to inspire and lift other young tennis players in Nigeria.”
