BREAKING: DSS, Police Storm Rivers Assembly as Lawmakers Resume Sitting

Security operatives, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, have taken over the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt as lawmakers prepare to resume sitting.

A strong detachment of armed security personnel was seen stationed at strategic points around the Assembly Quarters on Monday morning.

Their presence follows an official notice of sitting released earlier in the day by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

The purpose of Monday’s plenary session remains unclear, but sources suggest that discussions will likely focus on local government administration in Rivers State. This comes amid ongoing political tensions in the state following the fallout between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

The heightened security comes just days after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Speaker Amaewhule and his colleagues, directing them to resume legislative activities after months of a power struggle over the control of the Assembly.
