Oji River, Enugu State – May 12, 2025 – The Enugu West Unity Forum held a vibrant rally yesterday in Oji River Local Government Area, aimed at galvanizing support for the reelection of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in the upcoming 2027 elections. The Secretary General of the forum, Nze Theo Onyebeke, delivered a compelling presentation titled “Sustainable Development Through Continuity,” emphasizing the need for continued leadership to build upon the significant progress made in the state.
In his address, Onyebeke highlighted the transformative development that Enugu State has experienced under Governor Mbah’s administration. He credited the governor’s visionary leadership for the unprecedented growth across various sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and industrialization.
Key Development Projects
Onyebeke detailed several key initiatives that exemplify the governor’s commitment to sustainable development:
1. Infrastructure Development: The administration has completed over 71 urban roads and is working on a 10 km road project for each of the 260 political wards. The operationalization of the International Wing of Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the establishment of modern transport terminals have positioned Enugu as a prime destination for tourists and investors.
2. Education: With 33% of the 2024 budget allocated to education, Governor Mbah’s administration has established 260 Smart Green Schools across the state. This initiative aims to enhance educational infrastructure and empower youth, ensuring access to quality education for all.
3. Healthcare: The ongoing construction of 260 Type 2 Primary Health Centres aims to provide quality healthcare at the grassroots level. The administration has also focused on renovating existing hospitals and constructing a 300-bed world-class hospital in Independence Layout.
4. Agriculture: To enhance food security, the state is establishing a 200-hectare farm estate in each political ward. These initiatives are designed to transform Enugu into Nigeria’s Agricultural Hub.
5. Industrialization: The administration is actively promoting industrial growth to diversify the economy and create job opportunities.
6. Access to Justice: The reactivation of the Citizen’s Rights and Mediation Center (CRMC) in all 17 LGAs underscores the commitment to equitable access to justice through alternative dispute resolution processes.
7. Economic Inclusivity and Poverty Reduction: Onyebeke noted the ambitious goal of increasing the state’s Gross Domestic Product from $4.4 billion to $30 billion, with a focus on inclusive economic policies aimed at reducing poverty and improving the quality of life for residents.
The Case for Continuity
Emphasizing the need for continuity in governance, Onyebeke argued that many of the ongoing projects require stable leadership to ensure their completion. He urged the citizens of Enugu State to support Governor Mbah’s bid for a second term, which he believes will allow for the consolidation of achievements and the identification of a suitable successor to carry on the governor’s vision.
Conclusion
In closing, Onyebeke reaffirmed the importance of sustaining the developmental momentum achieved under Governor Mbah’s leadership. He called upon all citizens to rally behind the Enugu West Unity Forum and support the governor’s reelection campaign, ensuring that the progress made is not only maintained but also built upon for the benefit of Enugu State.
The rally was well attended by local leaders, community members, and supporters of the governor, all united in their commitment to the future of Enugu State.
