The President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa, has reaffirmed that there is no misunderstanding between the Federation and Nigeria’s track queen, Tobi Amusan, Sports247 reports.
The AFN boss made the clarification in a meeting in Tokyo on Monday night with Amusan and the Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Chief Bukola Olopade.

During the Okowa also reaffirmed that sports kits supplier, HiRacer, will redeem its $20,000 pledge to the hurdler for her silver medal feat at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
He emphasized that Amusan, the 100m hurdles world record holder, remains a valuable asset to Nigerian athletics and enjoys the Federation’s full support.
Clarifying the recent reports of a kits controversy, Okowa described the situation as a momentary misunderstanding that had since been resolved.
He stressed that the AFN under his leadership is committed to prioritizing the welfare of athletes and creating a more harmonious environment.
“The kits supplier, HiRacer, is fully prepared to redeem its cash reward of $20,000 to Tobi Amusan for her silver medal.
Discussions are also ongoing with the company for a more rewarding sponsorship package,” Okowa said.
He further noted: “There is no problem between Tobi and the Federation. I have worked with her for more than four years. It was just a brief misunderstanding.”
“This AFN board is responsive to the needs of our athletes, and we are determined to do things differently. At the meeting, I congratulated Tobi once again for her remarkable spirit and her silver medal performance in the 100m hurdles final. It was truly a moment of pride for Team Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, Okowa expressed gratitude to the NSC leadership, including Director-General Chief Bukola Olopade and Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, for ensuring the prompt settlement of allowances and bonuses due to Nigerian athletes competing in Tokyo.
