Two children killed in Eid celebration stampede

Two children, four-and-a-half-year-old Aisha Salisu Ahmed and four-year-old Maryam Abdullahi Gwani, have been killed during a stampede on the main Eid prayer ground in Gombe State.

The death of the children was confirmed by the governor, Muhammadu Yahaya in a statement issued by his director of press, Ismaila Misilli.

Several other people – including women and children – sustained various degrees of injuries.

It was gathered that the crowd of worshippers were rushing to leave the venue of the prayer when the incident occurred.

Condoling the families of the victims, Governor Yahaya ordered relevant security agencies in the stage to conduct an investigation into the matter.

According to him, the investigation would help the state to prevent the recurrence of such an incident.

Yahaya said, “The safety and well-being of our citizens remain a top priority.”
