Esther Fatima, a member of the Raptors FC, Lagos, standing at just 5’1″, is turning heads in the ongoing Showtime Flag Football League which takes place every Sunday at Showtime Arena in Lekki.

Esther is redefining what it means to play with heart.

Despite her size, Esther impressed fans and teammates alike during Raptors’ recent 6-0 victory over Ikan Sports, a match that could shape the title race as the season progresses.

Her performance, marked by lightning-fast runs, sharp flag-checking, and airtight defense, earned her a standing ovation from the crowd.

A pivotal moment came when Ikan Sports launched a promising attack late in the game.

As a powerful runner raced toward a potential game-tying touchdown, it was Esther who stepped up, snatching the flag in a perfectly timed defensive play, halting what looked like a certain score.

“I just focused on the flag. I was happy when I got it, and the whole team was happy too,” she told Sports247.

“Size Is Not a Barrier”

Esther, who has been playing flag football for three years, shared how she’s been able to hold her own against more physically imposing players.

> “Well, my size is not a barrier really,” she said. “I loved the game from the first day I came here for a tryout and was picked. It feels good to give my best every time despite my small size.”

When asked about her team’s win and her key role in it, she added:

“It was a close and tough game, and the score was low. So I’m very happy I did my part and we came out victorious.”

The league, sanctioned by the Nigeria Flag Football Federation, continues to spotlight rising stars like Esther and delivers thrilling action each weekend in Lekki.
